Am I protected against loss or damage?
Under the terms of the Uniform Household Goods Bill of Lading, you may choose from the "Full Replacement Value" protection plan or three "Depreciated Value" plans. "Full Replacement Value" means items will be repaired, replaced with like items, or a cash settlement made for current market replacement value. Gasperson provides "pairs and sets" coverage. "Depreciated Value" plans consider depreciation in claim settlements.
Why can't I move liquids?
Liquids can leak and damage goods, shift during transit causing control issues, and many are flammable or dangerous chemicals.
Can I move my frozen foods?
Frozen foods can be moved under specific conditions — discuss with your Gasperson agent.
Can I move my house plants?
Plants can be moved under certain conditions, but may suffer from climate changes and lack of water/sun. Some states prohibit plant entry. Plants are not covered under valuation plans.
Can I move my pet?
Pets cannot be carried on the moving van.
Can I pack my china, glass and crystal?
Most prefer professional packing since the company is then responsible. If you pack yourself, wrap items individually with plenty of cushioning. Movers' liability doesn't cover self-packed items unless there's visible carton damage.
Can I pack my clothes in chest and dresser drawers?
Lightweight clothing may stay in drawers. Don't fill with heavy items like books. Avoid fragile items or anything that might spill.
Can my possessions be stored temporarily?
Short and long-term local storage is available. You're responsible for storage, warehouse handling, and final delivery charges.
Why do I need an estimate?
Every move is different — estimates ensure proper manpower and resources without overcharging.
Do my appliances need special attention?
Most appliances require special servicing. Moving parts should be securely fastened. Owner is responsible for pre-shipment servicing, or Gasperson can do it for an additional charge.
How and when should I pay?
Payment required in cash, credit card, money order, cashier's check, or traveler's check before unloading. No personal checks.
How long does it take to move?
Depends on time of year, weather, load/unload time, direction and distance. Multiple shipments may share a van.
How much will my move cost?
Based on weight and distance, plus protection charges and any additional services like packing.
How shall I move my jewelry and other valuables?
Recommend carrying irreplaceable items with you. Don't conceal valuables without telling your agent.
How do I know if a moving company is "licensed"?
Look for certification from the North Carolina Utilities Commission and Interstate Commerce Commission.
What is a tariff?
The price list used by moving companies, on file with the Interstate Commerce Commission.
When is the best time to move?
Avoid summer (June-mid September) and end of month when demand is highest.
When should I call?
Four to six weeks advance notice if possible.
